Chelsea midfielder John MikelObi and speedy forward Victor Moses will report at the Super Eagles training camp in Faro, Portugal, for the Africa Cup of Nations this Saturday, January 5.
This was confirmed by Mikel himself, who disclosedthat he will leave for Faro, Portugal, along with Moses immediately after an FA Cup game against Southampton.
“I have two more games to play for Chelsea before I will resume at the Nations Cup training camp in Faro; that would be the league game against QPR and the FA Cup against Southampton on January 5. I will leave for the camp immediately after the game together with Victor Moses,” MTNFootball.com quoted Mikel as saying in an interview.
While this is Moses’ first appearance in the “African World Cup” scheduled for January 19 – February 10, it is for Mikel the fourth appearance, having made his debut at the 2006 tournament in Egypt.
Chelsea boss Rafael Benitez had wanted to have his two Nigerian stars till at least January 9 for the Capital One Cup semi-final against Swansea City but this will not happen, as Moses and Mikel have asked to be released to go and serve their fatherland.
As News Express reported yesterday, the Super Eagles’ camp in Faro, Portugal, is now bubbling with excitement following the arrival of more foreign-based pros for the final phase of the team’s preparation for the 29th Africa Cup of Nations.
