Senior Special Assistant to the Anambra State Governor on Inter-Party Affairs, Chief Ben Obi, has appealed to the immediate past governor of the state, Mr. Peter Obi, not to abandon the party as he remains its pillar.
Addressing reporters yesterday in Awka, Obi, who is also the chairman of a support group for President Jonathan known as Join Jonathan Journey (JJJ), a new group set up by APGA, said that Peter Obi leaving the party would amount to one destroying the house he built.
According to him, “Obi should support Governor Obiano in his effort to strengthen APGA. If he joins Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), politicians will make mockery of him and to me; this will be a suicide venture.
“This is because he swore to Anambra people that he will go back to his business after leaving office. You cannot build a house and pull it down and if he leaves APGA, people will not forgive him. My advice is that he should remain in the party and support Governor Obiano to build a stronger APGA.”
Obi has dismissed the insinuation that there is crisis in APGA, insisting that there is only one APGA. He also said that the federal lawmakers who left the party recently were misadvised.
Obi also commented on the recent court order restraining APGA officials and Governor Obiano from posing with President Jonathan on billboards, stressing that the Anambra State chairman of PDP, Mr. Ken Emeakayi who secured the injunction, apparently failed to understand the motive of APGA leadership.
He noted that Jonathan is the President of all Nigerians, hence his pictures adorn every office in the country, both in PDP states and non-PDP states.
His words: “It is not a crime for us to use President Jonathan’s picture. We use his picture because we are supporting him. If we are not part of the support group for President Jonathan, we would not have been invited to Abuja for meeting with other Goodluck Jonathan support groups where we were given letter of commendation.”
Obi further explained that JJJ has embarked on grassroots campaign and enlightenment to educate the voters on what to do on Election Day, which is to vote for President Jonathan and vote APGA candidates for other positions.
