Captain Idris Wada (retd.), governor of Kogi State in North-Central Nigeria, is likely to be flown abroad for better medical attention following yesterday’s road accident in which he suffered leg injuries.

Wada is presently at the National Hospital in Abuja, the nation’s capital, after initially receiving treatment at the Lokoja Specialist Hospital.

News Express learnt that his family does not want to take chances and is seriously considering flying him abroad as has become the custom among top government officials.

The governor’s spokesman, Mr. Jacob Edi, told News Express that he is not in a position to speak on the likelihood of his boss seeking treatment abroad.

“I do not have those details yet,” he told News Express on phone some minutes ago. “These are decisions to be taken by the family.”

Edi, however, dismissed rumours that Governor Wada has lost the use of his legs as a result of the accident.

“He had a fracture, which is treatable. The claim that he cannot walk is outlandish,” Edi said.

He disclosed that he would address the media by 2:00 p.m. today to give an update on the governor’s situation.

Governor Wada’s convoy had been involved in a ghastly accident along Lokoja – Ajoakuta Road in the state which claimed the life of his Aide de Camp (ADC), Idris Mohamed, an Assistant Superintendent of Police.

If he is eventually taken abroad, he would be the fourth Nigerian state governor presently seeking medical treatment abroad – the others being Taraba Governor Danbaba Suntai, who had a copter crash last October 25, as well as Enugu Governor Sullivan Chime and Cross River Governor Liyel Imoke, both of whom are down with unclear sicknesses.
