The Adamawa State Acting Governor, Hon. Umaru Fintiri, has emerged as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the October 11, 2014 governorship bye-election in the state.
He beat former Lagos and Borno military administrator, Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa, and four other rivals in the primary election held in the state capital, Yola.
The acting governor, who was initially disqualified but won an appeal to take part in the party primary, scored more votes than all his challengers combined.
He cleared 624 out of the 912 votes cast during yesterday’s primary, according to the leader of the PDP delegation for the election, Hon. Dimeji Bankole.
Announcing the result this morning in Yola, Bankole said that the current Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Ahmed Modibbo, came second with 197 votes, while Marwa came third with 54 votes, leaving Umar Ardo with 9 votes and 4 votes for a member of the State Assembly, Jerry Kumdisi.
Bankole declared 23 of the votes invalid. He called on the losers to support Fintri for the overall success of the party in the October 11 bye-election.
