Omambala youths tip Obaze for Senate

A group of young people under the umbrella of Youths for Equity and Justice has declared support for the former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters under Chief Peter Obi’s administration, Chief Dubem Obaze, as the people’s choice for 2015 Anambra North Senatorial zone. Obaze is a chieftain of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Speaking to journalists in Awka recently, the group’s spokesman, Mr. Basil Okwunwanne, said Obaze possessed all the qualities for effective representation of the area at the nation’s upper legislative chamber. It noted that it is equitable and in the interest of justice that Ogbaru axis be given the chance to produce the next senator for Anambra North, as they have never been given the chance.

According to the group, equality is equity hence, the members of Omambala Youths for Equity and Justice’s decision to beckon on Chief Dubem Obaze to come out and represent the Omambala area in the Senate in 2015.

“In line with the equity and justice that saw the emergence of Chief Willie Obiano from Anambra North as the governor of the state, there is also the need for such equity and justice to be followed in electing the next senator for Anambra North. The three political blocks in the area, comprising Omambala, Onitsha and Ogbaru, has served, only Ogbaru has not produced the senator for the zone.

We commend the former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi for championing equity during the 2013 governorship race. We also commend the Equity Group and Olu na Adagbe Peoples Assembly for also championing the cause that made it possible for Obiano, who is from Omambala, to emerge winner.

“It is in this light that we want to lend our voice to the call by Equity Group that Chief Dubem Obaze should come out and contest the senatorial seat of Anambra North.

Obaze has what it takes to ensure effective representation because senate is a serious place that requires somebody who is well grounded in politics to occupy the seat.”

The group recalled that what led to the loss of the senate seat by the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance, in the last senatorial election in the zone, was due to imposition of a candidate and hoped that such thing would not repeat itself.
