Troops from Sector 4 of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) have attacked Boko Haram assets in Arege in the Lake Chad area, killing scores of terrorists in the process.
A statement issued in N’Djamena - Chad on Wednesday by Colonel Timothy Antigha, MNJTF Chief of Military Public Information, disclosed that 33 terrorists were killed in action over two days.
He said that, in addition, two Gun Trucks were recovered; One Amoured Personnel Carrier destroyed; Two Motor Cycles destroyed; One 120MM Motar Tube recovered; Twelve AK 47 Riffles recovered; Two 60MM Motar Bombs recovered; 3,736 rounds of assorted ammunition recovered; One Binocular recovered; and Two Hand Grenades recovered.
Antigha said that as part of its “to unhinge the structures of Boko Haram and dismantle its terror networks in the Lake Chad Area, Air and Ground Components of the Task Force have intensified air interdictions and mop up activities in the Area of Operation.”
He disclosed that in another recent engagement, “Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance platforms as well as ground attack aircrafts from a coalition of Cameroonian, Niger and Nigerian Air Forces intercepted and destroyed Boko Haram Terrorists in Tunbum Rego, a prominent island in Lake Chad, believed to harbor High Valued Boko Haram Targets.”
MNJTF in the statement warned “individuals still associated with Boko Haram to surrender themselves for demobilisation and rehabilitation, while the opportunity still exists.”
