Expectations of the three major contenders for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship ticket ahead of the Adamawa governorship election was dashed yesterday as the party’s national working committee was silent on their applications for waiver, according to a report this morning in Daily Sun.
The new entrants to the ruling party, who had applied for waiver ahead of the party primary, are former EFCC Chairman, Nuhu Ribadu, and former Lagos State Military Administrator, Buba Marwa.
Former governorship candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Marcus Gundiri, is also waiting the decision of the party’s national leadership on his application for waiver.
According to the PDP 2012 Constitution (as amended), any member of the party seeking elective office must have joined the party for at least two years.
A new entrant seeking elective position must apply for waiver to the national secretariat through the state chapter.
Daily Sun said its checks revealed that at a meeting of the NWC held yesterday in Abuja, the issue of waiver for the governorship aspirants was not tabled for discussion.
The paper quoted a member of the NWC as telling it that the issue of waiver was not discussed at the meeting, saying: “We didn’t discuss it at all.”
