Nigerian-American actress Uzo Aduba has bagged a Creative Emmy Award as Best Guest Actress in a Comedy. She continues a fine tradition of Nigerian actors and actresses who have made names for themselves in the international creative acting scene.
The Emmy Awards, which was held in Los Angeles, USA on Saturday night, is famous for recognising excellence in the television industry.
Aduba, 33, won the award for her role as Sussan ‘Crazy eyes’ Warren, a lesbian character in the hit comedy ‘Orange is the new black’. The series is based on the lives of female prison inmates. Aduba has received lots of praise for her acting which saw her making unrequited sexual advances toward the lead character Piper Chapman.
Upon accepting the golden trophy from a famous veteran actor Morgan Freeman, an emotional Aduba fought off tears and said: “I’m speechless. I don’t know how to say how incredibly impressed I am to be a part of this show.”
Other notable Nigerian-born actors and actresses who have shone brightly in the international world of acting include Chwetelu Ejoifor, Sophie Okonedo, Adewole Akinnuoye-Agbaje and David Oyelowo, among others.
