MASSOB leader Uchenna Madu
A coalition of pro-Biafran groups, has decried what it described as “an irredeemable, wobbling Nigerian state” regretting that the country could not conduct credible national elections even in the 21sth century.
The groups, through a statement by the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), described last Saturday's Presidential and National Assembly elections “as an exercise in idiocy and futility and, at best, a rape of democracy.”
A statement by MASSOB and made available to journalists in Awka on Thursday by its leader, Uchenna Madu, reads in part: “Each day, your Nigerian state helps us in consolidating our argument as Biafrans that this dysfunctional country allow the disparate entities trapped herein (to) go their separate ways.
“What is more annoying is the blame-game targeted against Biafrans whenever Nigeria goes on one of its useless spins. This time around, it is the sacred blood of Biafrans that must be sacrificed for a worthless exercise called an election.
“Throughout the preparation, campaigns and eventual execution of the fraud they called elections, Biafrans’ blood were shed not only in Biafraland but across the nation.”
The groups warned that no single Biafran bloodshed will be in vain, saying that a detailed dossier of the perpetrators is being religiously updated.
The statement added: “At its fulltime and season, we will bring the perpetrators to justice.
“Didn’t your so-called constitution guarantee free movement and freedom of choice? Why kill Biafrans in their quest to exercise the so-called freedoms your constitution guaranteed them?
“The coalition of Biafran groups will not stand by and watch another repeat performance of 1966. Never! If you think you can intimidate millions of Biafran citizens earning their legitimate daily bread outside of Biafraland, you are joking.”
The coalition maintained that all Igbos have earned the right, paid with the blood of three million Biafrans to live anywhere they want until Nigeria does the needful or the needful is forced on her.
“This fluke of a country has not seen anything yet. While agreeing to speak with one voice in one accord with unity of purposes, we have resolved on the above after our emergency meeting in Enugu,” it stated.
The coalition of Biafran groups included the MASSOB, Eastern Peoples’ Congress (EPC), Igbo Youth Cultural and Restoration Initiative (IYCRI), Bilie Human Rights Initiative (BHRI), Movement of Biafrans in Nigeria (MOBIN), and Salvation People of Biafra (SP).
Others are, World Union of Biafran Scientists (WUBS), Shadow Government of Biafra (SGB), Biafran National Liberation Council (BNLC), Biafran Revolutionary Organisation (BRO), Biafran Liberation Crusade (BLC), Joint Revolutionary Council of Biafra (JRCB), Biafra Revolutionary Force (BRF), Customary Government of Biafra (CGB), Biafran Intellectual Clergy Forum (BICF), Biafra Movement for Sovereignty (BIAMOS), Biafran Central Council (BCC) and Biafran United Liberation Council (BULCO).
