Omisore petitions INEC over Osun governorship election result, says he was leading as at last night

Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in yesterday’s governorship election in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to protest the alleged premature announcement of the result by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University OAU Ile-Ife, had thearly this morning declared that the APC candidate, Governor Rauf Aregbesola, won majority of the poll with 394,684 votes against the 292,747 polled by Senator Omisore.

The PDP candidate, however, views the result with suspicion and wrote INEC last night over the matter.

“In the letter of protest personally signed by Senator Omisore and addressed to the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), the PDP candidate alleged that contrary to the results being circulated around by the APC, he was actually leading in the poll,” says a Sunday Vanguard report.

The letter, according to the paper, reads in part: “I hereby condemn the APC candidate, Raufu Aregbesola, declaring his own version of the results without recourse to INEC. With the facts of results, it’s apparent that the PDP candidate, Dr. Iyiola Omisore is leading.

“This act of APC is in conflict with the provisions of Electoral Law 2010 whereby a candidate can concoct figures and released to confuse the public and thus make this election inconclusive until facts behind the figures are released by the INEC.

“The peace and stability of this state is such under an unprecedented threat. The results so far by APC remained cancelled.”
