Governor Obiano
Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, on Wednesday said that contrary to some people’s perception, President Muhammadu Buhari has good plans for the South East zone.
He stated this during a courtesy call by the Lagos branch of Ohanaeze Ndigbo at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia.
Going down to specifics, Obiano said that Buhari plans to create an additional state in the South-East zone so as to bring it at par with other zones.
His words: “I’m in good terms with the President. He has emotional feeling that the South East ought to have an additional state.”
Obiano expressed a desire that February 16 would be made a national day of honour to the late patriarch, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, as the first President of Nigeria.
The governor condemned Ohanaeze’s decision to hold a meeting on the day Buhari was billed to formally open Zik’s Mausoleum in Onitsha.
He called on the pan-Igbo socio-cultural organisation not to deviate from its original objective of pushing for Igbo agenda and not engaging in partisan politics.
In his speech, the leader of the delegation, Nnamdi Nwigwe, hailed Obiano for his think-home philosophy and negotiating for power.
He said that their visit was to show solidarity with the Obiano administration, even as he expressed joy at Buhari’s gestures to not just the people of Anambra State but the South East at large.
“The completion of Zik’s Mausoleum, which is a national monument, road projects, the ongoing Second Niger Bridge, etc, lay credence to the fact that the Buhari administration has not forgotten the region,” Nwigwe said.
