The Federal Government has assured parents, guardians and students of safety as all Federal Unity Colleges nationwide resume academic activities on Sept. 14.

This is contained in a statement issued on Friday by Mrs Folasade Boriowo, Director, Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education on behalf of the Minister, Dr Tunji Alausa.

Alausa said that necessary arrangements had been put in place to ensure a safe, smooth and seamless commencement of the new academic session.

“The safety and wellbeing of students and staff remain central to the Federal Government’s commitment to providing a secure and conducive environment for teaching and learning,” Alausa said.

The minister said relevant security agencies had been duly informed of the resumption arrangements and were maintaining heightened vigilance around the Federal Unity Colleges and their immediate environments.

He explained that the coordinated efforts were aimed at safeguarding students, staff and school communities as academic activities resumed across the country.

Alausa urged parents and guardians to remain calm, rely on official information and proceed with preparations for their children and wards to return to their respective colleges on Monday.

He also directed school authorities to maintain close coordination with security agencies and other relevant authorities to facilitate an orderly and secure resumption.

The minister called on students, parents, teachers, school administrators and other stakeholders to work together to maintain a peaceful, supportive and secure school environment.

“The safety and wellbeing of learners remain a shared responsibility,” he said.

Alausa said the ministry would continue to monitor developments and take necessary measures, in collaboration with relevant authorities, to ensure the smooth and safe resumption of academic activities in all Federal Unity Colleges.

He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s education system and ensuring that Nigerian children had access to quality education in a safe and conducive learning environment.

“This commitment is in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which recognises education and human capital development as essential to Nigeria’s sustainable growth and national development,” he said.

The ministry, therefore, assured students, parents, guardians, teachers and the general public that all necessary arrangements were in place to support a safe, peaceful and successful resumption in the colleges nationwide. (NAN)
