Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Peter Obi, on Tuesday, called on Nigerians to vote in a candidate with fresh ideas and the capacity to move the nation forward.
Addressing journalists at the state party office in Anambra State before embarking on a road show to sensitise people on the need to vote out the incumbent government of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Obi observed that people are not happy, because the economy is in shambles while poverty rate is on the increase.
He said: “No doubt, we have received a lot of endorsements, but that should translate to votes. A second term in office for President Buhari will collapse this country. Over one million Nigerians are currently either unemployed or underemployed.
“Atiku, the Presidential Candidate of PDP, has ideas that will turn the fortunes of this country around and, on my part, I will ensure Nigeria stops borrowing once we are voted into office. We don’t have any reason to borrow.
“The present administration is bereft of ideas. There is growing insecurity in the land. We have now moved from number seven to number three most insecure country in the world, after Afghanistan and Iraq. This should worry everybody.”
Earlier in an interview, the Chairman of Anambra State Chapter of the Atiku/Obi Presidential Campaign Council, Mr. Oseloka Obaze, expressed optimism that the party will emerge victorious on February 16.
He said that the ruling party must run on its achievements, insisting that “it has failed the people in all its campaign promises which include monthly N5,000 stipend to indigent Nigerians, local government autonomy and reform of the electoral bill which has been passed by the National Assembly but yet to be signed into law.”
While saying that the attentive public is beginning to rally behind Atiku/Obi ticket, Obaze urged the ruling party to have magnanimity to accept defeat and move on in the event that it loses.
On the issue of rigging, the former governorship candidate of PDP in the 2017 governorship election in Anambra State said that the party is depending on international team of observers to ensure rigging is controlled adding that though INEC is faced with a huge challenge, it should have the onus as the statutory body to conduct a free and fair election.
