An Oyo State gubernatorial aspirant under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Engr. Seyi Makinde, has enjoined Nigerians not to mix politics with religion, as this is the only way to save the country from unending ethno-religious and politically-motivated crises.
He made the appeal during the maiden Omi-Titun Ramadan Public Lecture entitled ‘Advantages inherent in cordial relationship among various religions’ faithful’ held at Omi-Titun House, his campaign headquarters, in Ibadan.
Makinde advised that politicians should stop using religious sentiments to promote their political aspirations, so as to reduce tension in the country.
“Personally, I decided to annex my resources to promote two major religions in the country, Christianity and Islam, as part of my unparalleled contributions to make Nigerians live in unity, despite religion differences,” he said.
In his remarks, Engr. Lere Adigun, chairman of the occasion and former President of Ibadan Foundation, said: “This is the first time I felt humbled with the beneficial projects of Engineer Seyi Makinde to the growth and development of Islam and Muslims welfare in the country.”
Engr. Adigun charged other politicians to emulate Engr. Makinde’s political virtues and thus contribute to the country’s development.
