Ogun Police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi
The police in Ogun State have arrested a farmer who allegedly killed a herdsman in a farm in the state.
According to Daily Trust report, there was fear in Pakudi village near Obada-Oko in Obafemi-Owode LGA of the state following the alleged killing.
It was further gathered that residents have deserted their homes for fear of reprisal attack by herdsmen.
The farmer, who reportedly hails from Benue State, was said to have ran away after allegedly killing the herder for allegedly destroying his farm.
“As at today (Monday) most residents of this village have ran away for safety. This is because they heard that the herdsmen have been ganging up somewhere to attack the village. The village is deserted now,” a source, who pleaded anonymity, said.
However, the spokesman of the command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident, added that the suspect was arrested by operatives of SARs in the state.
“This is enough evidence that police are on top of the situation,” he said.
Oyeyemi allayed the fear of reprisal attack, saying the arrest of the suspect has solved the problem.
“No planned attack by anybody. We have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with all the leaders of ethnic groups in the state, especially farmers and herdsmen.
“I urge the people to go back to their homes and continue doing their legitimate businesses. There is no planned attack by herdsmen on them,” he added.
