A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Kura Local Government Area of Kano State, has sentenced a man, Abdulkadir, to two years in a correctional facility for threatening his uncle’s wife with a knife and allegedly attempting to sexually assault her.

The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Muhammad Alhaji Isa, convicted Abdulkadir after he pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him by the police.

The prosecution, led by Inspector Nasiru Abubakar Dansakkwato, told the court that the defendant had previously allegedly chased three of his uncle’s wives with a knife and threatened to sexually assault them.

According to a family source, the latest incident occurred after the defendant’s uncle married a fourth wife.

The source alleged that Abdulkadir entered the woman’s house while armed with a knife, found her observing Isha’I prayers and allegedly threatened her with the weapon and attempted to sexually assault her.

The woman reportedly raised alarm and informed her relatives, who subsequently reported the matter to the police in Kiru Local Government Area.

The police arrested Abdulkadir and charged him before the Kura Magistrate’s Court, where he pleaded guilty and asked the court to temper justice with mercy.

In his judgment, the chief magistrate sentenced him to eight months imprisonment without an option of fine for using force, six months for assault and an additional 10 months for threatening the woman with a knife with intent to sexually assault her. (Daily Trust)
