Obasanjo to Igbos: Beware of APC •Says Atiku and Obi are Nigeria’s beacon of hope

Ex-President Obasanjo

Former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has called on the people of Igbo extraction to be wary of the promise of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to hand over power to them in 2023.

He pointed out that “it’s dangerous to take the APC government serious”, urging the Igbo not to allow anyone relegate them to the background, as they occupy a place of supremacy in the emergence of the nation.

Obasanjo spoke on Saturday during a stakeholders’ meeting in the country home of former Minister of Aviation, Chief Mbazulike Amechi at Ukpor, Nnewi Anambra State.

He enjoined the Igbo to bury all their differences and work together for the actualisation of the Atiku Abubakar/Peter Obi candidature as president and vice president in the best interest of Nigeria and Nigerians.

He particularly urged Obi, the PDP vice presidential candidate, to reach out to Mbazuluke Amechi and other eminent personalities in Igbo land to drum support for his candidature.

The former President noted that PDP vice presidential candidate and his principal have great work to do for Nigeria.

He described the duo as a beacon of hope to all Nigerians who have had it so rough in the last four years.

His words: “It is important for Obi to think out of the box to take the nation out of the woods caused by incumbent and clueless administrators.

“With Mr Obi’s pedigree as a governor, I am hopeful that things would work for Nigeria under his leadership as vice president of the country.”

Obasanjo further prayed for a successful outing for Atiku and Obi in the 2019 presidential election even as he tasked them to do the right thing for Nigeria and Nigerians in office.

Earlier in his welcome address, the host described Mr Peter Obi and his principal as good men the country needed in a time like this.

Dignitaries at the meeting included Peter Obi, former Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, former minister of health, ABC Nwosu, former Imo governor Ikedi Ohakim, member of National Assembly, Hon Chris Azubogu, and Chief Innocent Chukwuma, Chairman/CEO, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company.

In an interview with journalists, the PDP vice presidential candidate assured Nigerians that he and his principal, Atiku Abubakar will not let the nation down.

The occasion was used to unveil the statue of Mbazulike Amechi built in his honour by the Ukpor community.
