The vexatious issue of who takes a shot at the Presidency, between the South East and the South West in 2023, has continued to dominate the campaign promises of the foot soldiers of President Muhammadu Buhari.
While the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, called on the Yoruba to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 election so as to pave way for their presidency in 2023, Mr Osita Okechukwu, Director General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), has also implored the Igbo to vote for Buhari in next year’s election saying this is not only politically expedient but the wisest decision for the actualisation of a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction.
“The wake-up call for Ndigbo in the true sense of the word is that equity, natural justice, and good conscience, are the advantages on the side of the South East as the only geopolitical zone in the Southern geo-political belt that has not presided over Nigeria since 1999, when the presidential rotation convenience took off,” Mr Okechukwu opined.
According to him, the President of Igbo extraction in 2023 is a win-win scenario and a golden opportunity for Ndigbo to end the vexatious issue of marginalisation, and create a sense of belonging in the Nigerian family.
Okechukwu appealed to Ndigbo to hearken to the clarion call as well vote for President Buhari “so as to reinforce the equity, natural justice and good conscience which is on our side.
“Our vote for Buhari will engender the support of his mass followers in the Northern (geopolitical) belt for Buhari has a Vote-Bank of 10-12 million voters, which is a big arsenal.
“Our support for Buhari is also predicated on the foundation he is laying on critical infrastructural development – 2nd Niger Bridge, 5,000 kilometres federal roads, 5,000 standard gauge railways, additional 5,000 megawatts of electricity and self-sufficiency in food production.
“On the issue of tenure completion, Buhari’s remaining four years post-2019 is cast in constitutional stone, while Atiku Abubakar’s own is at best a pledge. Atiku’s manifesto is six-year plan, therefore Buhari’s option is the quickest and surest route to Nigeria President of Igbo extraction.”
