Voters on queue
A Non-Governmental Organisation under the aegis of South Saharan Social Development Organization, (SSDO) in collaboration with National Orientation Agency, (NOA), Ebonyi State, on Thursday organised a rally within the state capital to sensitise electorates on the negative effect of vote-buying and other forms of electoral malpractices that were capable of destabilising the 2019 general election in the country.
The group which went round major roads/streets in Abakaliki including Ogoja and Afikpo roads expressed optimism that the impact of the rally would go a long way towards making the 2019 general election free, fair and credible.
In a chat with newsmen during the rally, the Executive Director of SSDO, Nkechi Igwe, who was represented by the Programme Officer, Good Governance and Community Development, Blessing Uchendu, said that the group would sustain their campaign for credible election until it is achieved.
“The purpose of the rally is to sensitise the zone for them not to sell their vote which is a form of electoral malpractice. They should not sit at home during election. They should go and collect their PVCs and participate actively in the forthcoming election.
“By the development, the 2019 election will be credible following the sensitisation we are doing. The negative impact is that we will vote the wrong people into power. And when these politicians get into power, they will focus on recouping the money the spent instead of providing Democratic dividends.”
Also, the Director of NOA, Dr. Ekmma Abah, stated that with continuous sensitization issues of election, the electorate will not only vote rightly, but also contribute their quota toward ensuring that the 2019 election was free, fair and credible.
“What we are doing today will safeguard the future of elections in this country and give the youths a sense of responsibility in the governance of the nation.”
