Super Eagle gaffer Stephen Keshi today expressed satisfaction with the fitness level of the team’s home-based players during their first training session in Abuja, the Nigerian capital.
It was a full house as the 22 invited players who were given yesterday as deadline to hit camp complied.
According to Eagles media chief, Ben Alaiya, “Today’s programme was basically just for the players to loosen up and also check their physical condition and the coach was satisfied with what he saw. There were no injuries and everything went well.”
The Lagos-based PM News to which Alaiya spoke further quoted him as saying: “The players are in good shape because they have not been redundant as they have been playing pre-season matches for their clubs. We had a very good and competitive training.
“All the players are relishing their chances of making the team and this is what we expect because the coach believes that any player that is in good form and is committed stands a chance of being part of his team to South Africa next month.”
News Express reports that Super Eagles foreign-based stars have been handed a January 4 deadline to report at the team’s Faro camp in Portugal for the final phase of preparations for the ‘African World Cup.’
