The Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has finally approved one of the most acclaimed movies from Africa, Half of a Yellow Sun, for wide release.
The decision by NFVCB not to okay the movie had attracted widespread criticism. The board had cited the current security situation in Nigeria and stated that the movie, which is a narrative of the Nigerian civil war, could incite violence.
The movie was classified 18 and above by the censors board, when it yesterday evening released a list of over 70 Nollywood movies approved in the month of June.
Half of a Yellow Sun was adapted by Biyi Bandele from a novel of the same title written by Chimamanda Adichie. It features a very strong cast that includes Oscar nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor.
