Three Anambra State House of Assembly members flying the umbrella of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, were on Thursday suspended by the party’s state Chairman, Chief Norbert Obi.
The suspended members include, Mr. Ikem Uzoezie, representing 11 constituencies, Mr Harford Oseke (Awka South 11), and Mr Victor Okoye (Anambra West).
Recall that some lawmakers had on Tuesday impeached the Speaker of the House, Hon Rita Maduagwu for reasons they gave as docility, financial misappropriation, among others.
Hon Ikem Uzoezie had moved the motion for the impeachment on the floor of the House. while Hon Hafford Eseke seconded it, even as the former was declared the new Speaker of the state assembly.
In her reaction on Tuesday, Mmaduagwu had described the group as rascals, dismissing the purported impeachment as illegal and invalid.
She insisted that nobody could impeach her because she did not commit any offence. adding that she remained the Speaker of the House.
Making the disclosure at a press conference in Awka on Thursday, the party chairman said the trio received the suspension hammer because they spearheaded the failed impeachment debacle.
He called on the warring factions to sheath their sword, noting that the rancour and bitterness that was created during the recently concluded party primaries was not enough to tear the party apart.
Obi reiterated the fact that a reconciliation committee has been set up to handle the issue.
He said: “It is the position of the party that all aggrieved members should sheath their swords as failure to do so will amount to setting our own house on fire.
“The three ring leaders of the attempted impeachment saga, namely Ikem Uzoezie, Harford Osseke and Victor Okoye are hereby suspended from the party, pending when they will appear before the disciplinary committee of the party.”
