A widow, Stella Nkoro, has automatically emerged the winner ofIkom 2 State Constituencyof Cross River State, thereby taking over her late husband’s seat before the actual election.

Nkoro, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, has been listed as the only candidate to vie for the position, as other parties in the state did not meet deadline.

The widow’s late husband, Simon, was the one representing the constituency at the Cross River State House of Assembly before his demise on Aug. 26.

According to a statement by INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr Festus Okoye, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is the only party that will appear on the ballot paper in the by-election.

Okoye explained that only the PDP met the deadline for the submission of names of candidates which was on Nov. 6, 2018.(NAN)
