President-General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Nnia Nwodo
Aheadof 2019 general election, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has cautioned Igbo to be wary of those they call political desperadoes inundating them with all manner of promises.
This came as the Igbo World Assembly (IWA), a body of the Igbo in 37 countries, disclosed that it would initiate an exchange programme and ensure that Igbo youths in the diaspora interfaced with their counterparts and students at home; including Gregory University, Uturu, in Abia State.
Deputy National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze, Chuks Ibegbu, who spoke during the tour of facilities at Gregory University by the leadership of IWA and some chieftains of Ohanaeze, at the weekend, called on Ndigbo to vote for only credible and proactive contenders ready to restructure the country and provide a level playing field for all Nigerians.
He warned against rigging of 2019 election and urged politicians to stick to the rules of the election.
IWA President, Dr. Nwachukwu Anakwenze expressed delight with the giant strides of the university founded by Prof. Greg Ibe, whom he called a worthy Igbo son; especially the institution’s determination to promote Igbo language and culture.
In his remarks, the vice chancellor of the university, Prof. Juliet Elu, thanked IWA for the quality representation they offer Ndigbo in the Diaspora and assured that the university would do everything possible to ensure that Igbo are not found at the rung of developments in Nigeria and the world.
Similarly, Ibe promised to sustain the high standard the university had set for the benefit of Ndigbo and Nigeria, while calling on Igbo to see the university as their own by supporting its programmes and activities.
