A two-time member of the Edo State House representing Akoko Edo, Hon. Kabiru Adjoto, has demanded an apology from one of his colleagues, Hon. Patrick Iluobe, for accusing him (Adjoto) of trying to kill him.
Hon. Iluobe, one of the suspended Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers currently refusing to accept their suspension and court order asking them to stay away from the House in the mean time, had told newsmen on Monday that Adjoto, of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), threatened “to sacrifice my head” over the crisis. He called on the police to look into the matter.
Reacting yesterday, Adjoto described the claim as “criminal” and a “blanket allegation.”
In a letter he served Hon. Iluobe through his lawyer Dele Igbinedion, Hon. Adjoto asked for a retraction, apology and the payment of N500 million for allegedly defaming his character and exposing him to public ridicule.
On Sunday evening there was an attack by gunmen on the convoy of some PDP lawmakers (including Hon. Iluobe) in the outskirts as they returned from a trip outside town.
The PDP lawmakers told journalists that they suspected foul play. They sought to link the incident to crisis in House of Assembly, but the Edo State Police Commissioner Foluso Adebanjo has described the incident as a case armed robbery.
