Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, has approved the appointment of the State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Ebitimitula Nicholas Etebu, as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the newly established Bayelsa State Medical University, Yenagoa.

Prof. Etebu, a fellow of the International College of Surgeons, was the Medical Director at the Federal Medical Centre Yenagoa from 2006 to 2014.

A Professor of Pathology, Etebu also lectured at the Department of Health Sciences, University of Port Harcourt, from 2003 to 2006. A member of several professional associations with several academic publications to his credit, Etebu was also Head, Anatomical Pathology Department, University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, among others.

“Prof. Etebu’s appointment is part of the efforts of His Excellency to lay a solid foundation for the Bayelsa State Medical University,” the Governor’s Special Adviser, Media Relations, Fidelis Soriwei, said.

He announced that the Governor has also approved the appointment of Dr. Akpoebi Adesi as the Acting Registrar of the university. Before his appointment Dr. Adesi was the Registrar of the Jasper Isaac Adaka Boro College of Education, Sagbama.

Both appointments take immediate effect.
