The leadership of the Niger Delta Youth For Good Governance (NDYFGG), under the leadership of Comr. Lucky O.O. Ukueku, has commended the Executive Chairman of Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State, Hon. Dr. Lucky Iroroefe Avweromre, PhD, for his outstanding performance and commitment to human capital development.

In a statement issued to newsmen in Asaba on Tuesday, Comr. Ukueku, who is also the pioneer National President of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) Scholarship Students Worldwide, said the commendation was based strictly on capacity, delivery and impact.

“As a comrade and activist, I don’t just commend people anyhow. We commend leaders based on capacity and their genuine efforts in human capital development,” he stated.

While noting that he is not a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Comr. Ukueku said if he must commend the Delta State Government, it would be on the strength of Dr. Avweromre’s performance.

“Without any fear of contradiction, Dr. Avweromre ranks among the best Council Chairmen Delta State has produced in this current dispensation,” he said.

The NDYFG’ National President disclosed that the commendation followed a meeting of forum leaders in Asaba after a preliminary assessment of the performance of Delta State Council Chairmen.

According to him, while some other Chairmen have performed well, Dr. Avweromre has distinguished himself through youth engagement, execution of developmental projects within available resources, and a strong passion for education.

“He is a lover of education. This has driven him to award scholarships to Ughelli South youths in universities and tertiary institutions, as well as sponsor skills acquisition programmes,” Comr. Ukueku added.

He stated that the mandate of NDYFGG is to commend good governance and constructively criticize failure, noting that leadership must be about service to the people.

“In recent times, some Delta State Council Chairmen have been dragged on social media over poor performance. Some of them act with impunity because they believe they are close to government and nothing will happen. But the Governor may not know that many of them have failed their LGAs while only engaging in eye-service politics,” he said.

Comr. Ukueku announced that NDYFGG has constituted committees to tour the 25 LGAs of Delta State to assess and publish performance reports of all Council Chairmen ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Delta State needs good governance. No Council Chairman is above the people. If you fail to lead by example, you are not fit to represent your people,” he said.

He described Dr. Avweromre, a former lecturer, as a humble and youth-friendly leader who has deployed his wealth of experience to serve Ughelli South.

Comr. Ukueku also commended His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori, Executive Governor of Delta State, for appointing Dr. Avweromre, and urged the Governor to critically review the performance of other Council Chairmen.

“Your Excellency should not allow personal friendship to destroy your administration by returning failed Council Chairmen. If they are your friends and political associates, appoint them as aides, not as Council Chairmen,” he concluded.
