APC crises: Oshiomhole mobilises South-South chairmen, as gang up thickens

APC National Chairman Oshiomhole

Amidst gang up against his leadership by the governors, embattled national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has since mobilised chairmen of the party on his geopolitical zone to ward off agitation for his removal.

According to Tribune report, chairmen of the party in Edo, Akwa-Ibom, Cross Rivers, Delta and Bayelsa States met last night in Abuja where they passed a vote of confidence in his administration.

They also resolved to seek the support of their colleagues in the Forum of State chairmen, to neutralise the threat of removal of the former Edo State governor, being instigated by the governors who are already pushing for an emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee, (NEC).

By virtue of the APC constitution, the 36 state chairmen are members of NEC. Those who signed the resolutions were Jones Ode Erue (Delta), Anslem Ojezua (Edo), Honourable Ini Okopido (Akwa Ibom), Hon Amos Jothan (Bayelsa) and Dr Matthew Achigbe (Cross River). Their Rivers state counterpart, however, stayed away.

Despite the criticisms trailing the outcome of the primaries, even in their home states, the APC chairmen in the south- south commended the APC national working committee led by Comrade Oshiomhole for conducting what they called transparent primaries and called on the aggrieved chieftains and aspirants to explore the party internal mechanisms for conflict resolutions.

They further accused the governors of instigating crises on the eve of the next general elections, which they claimed was aimed at frustrating the chances of President Muhammadu Buhari to win a fresh mandate.

The communique read in part: “We chairmen of the All Progressives Congress in the six states of the South-South, at the end of our emergency meeting held on Thursday, October 25, 2018, in Abuja issued the following communique:

“We passed a vote of confidence in the leadership of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole led National Working Committee (NWC) of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
