CAY Spokesman Aminu Lawal
A group known as Concerned APC Youths (CAY) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to wade into the face-off between the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Adams Oshiomhole and some governors who are pushing for the removal of Oshiomhole as in order to stop it from degenerating into a full-blown crisis that could damage the fortunes of the party in the general elections next year.
Spokesman of CAY, Aminu Lawal, who spoke exclusively with News Express, called on President Buhari to call Oshiomhole to order over his alleged high-handed style of leadership as APC Chairman.
“We have watched with concern the current battle between Oshiomhole and the governors as well as between the chairman and other top members of the party. It is important for the chairman to be more sophisticated in dealing with disputes with principal officers of the party. We are not comfortable at all with the overt confrontational style of the chairman and that’s why we use this medium to call on President Buhari to wade into this crisis between the chairman and the governors and call Oshiomhole to order, otherwise the chances of the APC in next year’s general elections might be damages fatally,” Lawal said.
Some top officials of the APC have blamed Oshiomhole over a number of issues including the handling of party primaries in some stated, fraud and bowing to the “Lagos Cabal”.
Lawal noted that politics is a game of numbers and that “divisive politics within the party could seriously weaken its chances of amassing the massive numbers it needs to win the general elections convincingly next year.”
He added: “We (CAY) believe that the APC remains the only party with a genuine pathway towards the betterment of Nigeria and this current in-fighting will be resolved eventually. But we want the president to use his undoubted maturity to settle the present warring factions of our great party so that we can concentrate on the proper messages we have for Nigerians with regard to the road map for a better Nigeria.”
Meanwhile, there are unconfirmed media reports that Buhari has told Oshiomhole to ensure that all the controversies surrounding the governorship and state assemblies’ primary elections “must be resolved this week.”
