PDP Presidential candidate Atiku
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar says women and youths will occupy at least 40 per cent of his cabinet if elected president.
He made the pledge in a series of tweets on Wednesday, four months to the general elections in 2019.
Atiku, who is the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), faulted President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) government for the economic status of the nation.
According to him, Nigeria has become the world headquarters for “extreme poverty”.
The former vice president, however, explained that the way out of poverty was to empower women and youths in the country.
He recalled that during his time in government, the PDP administration designed its policies to help young people grow stronger banks and networks among others.
Atiku added that many Nigerians who travelled abroad in search of greener pastures returned to the country to start successful businesses.
He alleged that the case was different under the present administration, saying those young people who returned were already leaving the country again.
The PDP candidate disclosed that their policy document, which he said was ready, would be unveiled soon.
He explained that it was designed mainly to create an enabling environment for the youth and women to return to the path of wealth creation and gainful employment.
