The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has fixed Friday, October 19, 2018, to hear the case brought before it by peoples right activist and APC presidential aspirant, Mr. Christmas Akpodiete.
Akpodiete is asking the court to declare the just concluded primaries null & void.
In September, Akpodiete filled an action before the court asking for the determination of some fundamental rights questions in law, bordering on the constitutionality of political parties to charge exorbitant nominations fees.
Akpodiete is of the opinion that the N45 million naira nomination fees is unconstitutional null and void and an attempt by the Nigeria political oligarchs to make nonsense of the just passed not too young to run law.
Akpodiete is asking the court to declare the just concluded party primaries null and void, for gross violations of his fundamental human right to run for public office as guaranteed by the constitution.
He’s also praying the court to give a level praying ground to all Nigerians so as to enable citizens who earn minimum wage to participate in the electoral process.
Akpodiete stated that it is a trite law that any rules or regulations that violate the constitutional rights of citizens is voidable. He emphasised that regulations, laws and policies must not be biased.
Quoting Martin Luther King, he said: “Our lives begin to end, when we sit and do nothing about oppression”.
“We have confidence that the court will correct this illegality,” Akpodiete added.
