President Ohanaeze Youth Council, Okechukwu Isiguzoro
The Leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has dismissed the purted disunity among Ndigbo over the selection of former Anambra Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, as presidential running mate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar, for the 2019 polls.
A statement issued after the group’s meeting on Sunday in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, appealed to Southeast leaders aggrieved by Atiku’s alleged non-consultation before choosing Obi to see his emergence as divine.
The statement reads signed by the group’s leader, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said: “OYC asks those who lost out in the bid to become Atiku’s running mate to allow the collective interest of Ndigbo to thrive above personal interests and support Peter Obi to deliver the zone in the forthcoming presidential election.”
On insinuations that the Southeast is divided on Obi’s choice as Atiku’s running mate, the statement said: “This is false and untrue as Southeast is solidly behind the choice of Peter Obi as running mate to Mr Atiku’s.
“We implore our leaders to be mindful of their resolutions before the public as it can be misunderstood by other tribes and zones that Igbos cannot manage their successes and electoral fortunes which had been the bane of our progress since 1999.”
