A middle-aged man identified as Chukwudi Nweze has been arrested by the police for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl at the weekend in Obosi road, Isiowulu, Anambra State.
News Express gathered that the suspect had lured the under-aged to his room around 8:25pm where he had carnal knowledge of her.
It was gathered that the victim lives in the same compound with the suspect.
Confirming the incident, the State Police spokesperson, Haruna Mohammed, said: “The suspect allegedly had unlawful carnal knowledge with his neighbour’s daughter, a 12-year-old girl in his room at about 8:25pm.”
He said the victim has been taken to Ivy Hospital Odume for medical examination by Police detectives attached to Isiowulu Division, after visiting the scene.
He stated that investigation was currently ongoing.
In another development, a 21-year-old man has reportedly committed suicide in his residence at Amukabia village, Achalla, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra state.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, in a statement, said the incident happened on Friday at about 5:30pm.
The statement said: “One Sunday Okpaga of Ebonyi State but resides at Oye in Achalla, Awka North LGA reported at Achalla Division that his Cousin, one Eyim Akpaga ‘m’ allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself.
“Scene was visited by Police detectives attached to Achalla Division and victim’s photograph was obtained.
“Corpse was immediately taken for burial without autopsy to Ebonyi State by relatives who claimed and insisted was part of their tradition.”
According to the PPRO, the motive behind the act was yet to be ascertained, even as he said that investigation was ongoing to unravel the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident.
