A member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Thursday drowned in a boat accident in Gubi Dam in Bauchi State.

The corps member, 26-year-old Joseph Adebayo, who was attached to the state board of Internal Revenue, is said to have boarded the canoe along with two other corps members on their way to a picnic to celebrate the end of their service year.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Kamal Abubakar in a statement, said the other corps members were rescued by villagers who were fishing in the dam while the body of the deceased was later recovered on Friday morning.

The body of the victim has been deposited at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa teaching hospital mortuary for medical examination while the police commencesaninvestigation into the incident.
