Raging fire
A kerosene explosion in Awada-Obosi, Anambra State, on Monday night has razed down eight room service apartments, leaving a middle-aged woman with severe burns all over her body.
News Express recalls that similar incidents had earlier happened in Amikwo, Awka and Nkwelle Ogidi, leaving a 14 years old Ada Okpoto dead, while another victim, Devine Favour (13) sustained various degrees of burns respectively.
Information gathered has it that the victim, Mrs. Gift Oroke, was making dinner at about 10pm, after pouring alleged adulterated kerosene in her stove, when the explosion occurred.
The victim, who lives at No. 7 Dike Ezeagu Street, Ugwuagba Obosi, was said to have sustained varying degrees of burns.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Haruna Mohammed, who confirmed the incident, said the victim was taken to St. Martins Hospital, Ugwuagba, Awada, for medical attention.
He said the matter was under investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Mohammed called on members of the public to always apply caution when using kerosene and other combustible substances so as to avoid such ugly mishap.
