A six-month-old baby was on Saturday rescued by a good Samaritan from a forest in Obosi, Idemili North local government area of Anambra State where he was dumped by an unknown person.
The baby, whose rescue from the bush came as a result of his cries, was discovered at about 6am by one Duff Ibanga of Umuota village in the area.
According to the rescuer, he was drawn to the baby’s cries as he was passing through the area.
He stated that his intention after picking the baby was to take him to a church, but out of fear of incurring problem for himself, he changed his mind and took him to the police.
His words: “The baby is now with the police; I wanted to take him to a church but I later changed my mind to avoid problems”.
Confirming the incident, the police public relations officer in the state, PPRO, Mr. Haruna Mohammed, said the baby had been handed over to motherless babies home for safe keeping.
He said: “At about 0600hrs, one Duff Ibanga male of Umuota Village Obosi brought to Obosi Division a six-month-old baby alleged to have been abandoned in a bush along Idemili Junction road Obosi.
“The scene was visited by police detectives attached to juvenile and welfare unit of the division. The case is under investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident and effort is ongoing to trace the biological mother of the baby.”
The PPRO called on members of the public with useful tips that could assist in tracing the parents of the baby to report at Obosi Police Division.
