The Nigeria Police this morning in Abuja announced a cash reward of 50 million ($300,000 or £177,000) to anyone who volunteers credible information that will lead to the location and rescue of the over 200 female students abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, by Boko Haram on April 14.

The reward was announced in a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Frank Mba, who said: “The Force urges all patriotic citizens with such useful information to contact the following numbers:

“While calling on the general public to be part of the solution to the present security challenge, the Police High Command also reassures all citizens that any information given would be treated anonymously and with utmost confidentiality.”

The abduction has triggered global protests and only yesterday, US President Barack Obama announced that American troops and security experts had been sent to help find the girls. Nigeria’s former colonial master Britain has also promised assistance in this regard.
