Unhealthy rivalry has broken out between upcoming Nigerian music stars Davido and Whizhid which if not nipped in the bud could escalate into physical attacks by their two camps.
The rivalry “between the two singers is taking the shape of a full-blown animosity and its feared it could snowball into something unseemly,” according to the Lagos-based PM News.
A report in the evening newspaper said the two youngsters were friends “until sometime in May, when the relationship became strained as a result of the personality clash between top cats, D’Banj and Don Jazzy. Davido queued behind D’Banj, while Wizkid elected to fight Don Jazzy’s corner in the Mo’Hits civil war.”
It claimed that the enmity between the two young men worsened when Davido tricked Whizkid into making unplanned expenses so as to avoid embarrassment in a Lagos nightclub.
“Davido forced Wizkid to pick up the tabs after a night out at a popular nightclub in Victoria Island, Lagos. Wizkid, who was invited by Davido, was said to have brought some friends over. Davido ordered drinks, which were naturally pricey. But while the bingeing was going on, Davido allegedly slipped away, leaving Wizkid with the task of paying the bill racked up. This was estimated to be between N200, 000 and N300,000,” the report said.
To demonstrate to the whole world that there’s no love lost between them, Davido in September reportedly walked out of the Nigerian Entertainment Awards show in New York, USA, while Wizkid was performing.
While Wizkid started reigning about two years ago, “the arrival of Davido on the scene early this year seems to have chipped away Wizkid’s popularity,” says the report, which quotes an industry player as saying that “the two are practically targeting the same audience.”
