Delta State Deputy Governor, Prof. Amos Utuama (SAN), has opined that leadership should be accorded to those who are matured in mind and are experienced otherwise the world would be full of confusion and lack of peace.

Utuama stated at the weekend during the 70th Birthday celebration and Book Presentation in honour of former Transition Committee Chairman, Udu Local Government Council, Hon. Eddie Ono-Sorhue, JP, at Orhuwhorun, Udu Local Government Area.

He declared that those who are mature and experienced usually have the capacity of handling challenging issues that would have otherwise caused problems in the society.

The state deputy governor described Hon. Ono-Sorhue as a man of matured mind and a great achiever. He noted that enrolling for a Ph.D programme at the age of 70 poses a challenge to the young ones and that it means there is no end to age in terms of acquiring more knowledge.

“You have set a goal, and this goal will cause a revolution among the young ones who will say, if Ono-Sorhue can do it at this age, then they can do it too, no matter the challenges,” Utuama stated. He described Ono-Sorhue’s determination and achievements as worthy of emulation.

While praying for God’s continuous blessing and many more years for him, he asserted that Hon. Ono-Sorhue has joined the league of authors that will continue to write books for the benefit of people and development of the community.

Hon. Eddie Ono-Sorhue, while expressing his appreciation to state deputy governor and other dignitaries who had gone to honour him, said he was overwhelmed by the presences of those who matter much in the political equation of the state and country.

According to him, “Now I can confidently say that I am no longer a baby who vaguely follows with his eyes, something that gets its attention but have not entered its understanding. I can claim now that in my infancy, I bordered upon the Atlantic only, that my youth carried my boundary to the Gulf of Mexico, but today maturity sees me upon Pacific.”

Reviewing the book, Africa’s Internal Violent Crisis and Development, Prof. G.G. Darah, observed that the book deals with the fundamental problems of Africa, namely, the prevalence of conflicts and violence and how they retard the process of growth and development.

According to him, Nigeria has witnessed various manifestation of violent crisis for several decades. He noted that the Oil war in the Niger Delta Area and the Islamic insurgent groups in the north-east of the country are some of the challenging cases.
