Thunderstorm
The Awka irmed the death of a student of Anambra State University, following a thunderstorm which struck and killed him on Monday, July 2, 2018.
A statement issued on Tuesday in Awka by the Command, signed by the PPRO, Haruna Mohammed, titled ‘Sudden and unnatural death’, said: “On 02/07/18 at about 1700hrs, during heavy downpour, thunder lightning struck one Vincent Uche Mbanefo, student of the Anambra State University, Igbariam while he was in his lodge at Achalla.
“Police detectives attached to Achalla division visited the scene and rushed the victim to the hospital where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor. Photographs were taken and deceased parents were immediately contacted who came and conveyed the corpse for burial to their village in Aguleri.”
In another development, the Police have alerted on the arrest of a six-man robbery syndicate terrorising the State. “On the 29/6/2018 at about 1630hrs, following intelligence report, Police operatives attached to the Command’s special Anti-robbery squad (FSARS) arrested the following syndicate at Oba in Idemili South LGA of Anambra State, Obinna Ibeh, male, aged 24 years, Edwin Chibuzor, male, aged 24 years, Orji Onyema, male, aged 26 years and, Friday Nwankwo, male, aged 23 years old, respectively.
“Suspects belonged to the six-man syndicate who intercepted a trailer loaded with Dangote cement along Onitsha/Owerri road on the 9/6/2018 at 0330hrs and carted away all the bags of cement inside the trailer.
“Further investigation led to the arrest of two receivers of the stolen goods as follows, Onuchukwu Chinedu, male, aged 36years and, Eze Levi, male, aged 38 years,” the police said, adding, “Meanwhile, exhibits were recovered and investigation is in progress after which suspects would be charged to court for prosecution.”
Other cases recorded by the Police includes “Suicide: On the 2/7/2018 at about 1600hrs, one Nnamdi Omezi male aged 40 years allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope on the ceiling fan in his apartment at No 7 Fred Ezika street Odume layout Obosi.
“Police detectives attached to Isiowulu Division visited the scene with a medical doctor, and the victim was certified dead. However, all efforts to recover the corpse and take it to the hospital for autopsy proved abortive as the community insisted on ritual rites to be conducted as a traditional requirement before moving the corpse. The deceased Photograph was obtained and case is under investigation.”
“Arrest of suspected armed robber and recovery of arms: On the 02/07/2018 at about 0135hrs Police Patrol team while on routine patrol at Nodu village, Okpuno in Awka South LGA intercepted one Chigozie Nwankwo James aged 24 years in a Tricycle ‘KEKE’ with registration No Awka 820 QT.
“Following a search on the tricycle, two pump action guns with breech numbers HV 942110 and 9041 Makes Maverick and Master magnum respectively were recovered. Suspect is assisting the Police with useful information that would lead to the arrest of his accomplices,” the Command affirmed.
