In a tragic parallel to the death of her mother Paula Yates, the 25-year-old is reported to have been killed by an overdose of the class A drug.

The TV presenter was found dead while caring for her 11-month-old son at the family home in Wrotham, Kent on April 7.

No evidence of drug paraphernalia was discovered at the time, leading to speculation that it may have been removed.

Today her family refused to comment on the reports that first surfaced in the Times newspaper this morning.

A spokesman for the Geldof family: “I cannot confirm anything as an inquest is taking place. The family have no statement.”

A post-mortem failed to establish the cause of death and toxicology tests had been ordered. An inquest into her sudden death will be opened and adjourned this afternoon.

Peaches had been involved in drug use when she was younger, including reports she had to be revived after an overdose in 2008.

That year she was also questioned but not charged after being seen offering a drug dealer up to £190.

Her friend Freddy McConnel died from a drug overdose in 2011, aged 18. An inquest into his death heard how, just months before his death, he had written in his diary: “Peaches is coming over later and I am going to inject for the first time. Perhaps I will die. I hope I don’t.”

Friends insisted that the former wild child had stopped using drugs before the birth of her children.

Kent Police have said her death is being treated as a “non-suspicious, unexplained sudden death”.

The Times reported that Peaches had become “increasingly obsessed” with the death of Paula who died in 2000 from an accidental heroin overdose, aged 41.

Peaches posted a picture just hours before she died of herself as a youngster with her mother.

The mother-of-two’s body was discovered next to her 11-month-old son Phaedra while her husband Tom Cohen and their other son, 23-month-old Astala, were away.

Peaches’ funeral was held at St Mary Magdalene and St Lawrence church in Davington, Kent – the same place her mother’s funeral was held.

North West Kent Coroner Roger Hatch will open and adjourn a short inquest into the model’s death later today.

In the expected 10-minute hearing, the coroner will release the cause of death. A date for a full inquest is due to be set some time in late July.

After her death Mr Geldof had released a statement in which he described her as “the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us”.
