Nigeria police operatives
The Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SPACS) of the Anambra State Police Command has arrested a two-man armed robbery/pickpocketing gang terrorising residents of Nkpor and Awka road in Onitsha as well as motorists.
The robbers were said to have been arrested while trying to snatch money and other valuables from a man at gunpoint.
It was in the process that a team from the SPACS unit on a tip-off stormed the scene and arrested them.
One of the suspects, Okechukwu Eze, a father of one from Nenwe in Awgwu Local Government Area of Enugu state while confessing to the crime, said he has been in crime for thirteen years.
He pleaded for forgiveness and vowed never to return to the robbery andpick-pocketing operations again, if forgiven.
The suspect admitted robbing a man of his GSM handset few days to their arrest, stating that he sold the phone for thirty thousand naira.
Earlier, his accomplice, Emeka Azubuike, from Odume, Aninri Local Government Area, Enugu State, who rode the motorcycle with which they operated, said: “I am not married but I impregnated my girlfriend.”
As they were being whisked away, a victim of the suspected armed robbers whose handset was earlier snatched, spotted Okechukwu Eze as one of those that robbed him at gunpoint along the Nkpor Awka road and collected his handset.
Both suspects however denied using guns in their operations adding that they will take SPACS operatives to their hideout in Onitsha where criminals with guns would be arrested.
Confirming the arrest, the SPACS Commander, Mr Christopher Bassey (CSP), said the suspects were already assisting them in their investigation.
