A randy man (names withheld) has absconded to evade police arrest after defiling an eight-year-old girl in the commercial city of Onitsha.
It was gathered that the victim, a primary four pupil of Lafiaji Primary School, Fegge Onitsha, was lured by the man while on her way to school.
After defiling the girl in his Calabar Street residence, Fegge Onitsha, the innocent girl continued her journey to school in blood-stained school uniform until she caught the attention of few concerned passers-by.
The suspecting passersby which included an activist attached to Civil Liberties Organization (CLO), Comrade Onyedika Obi, after finding out from the girl that a man forcefully had carnal knowledge of her, causing her to bleed, joined her to school to present her case before the school authority.
It was the school authority in company of the concerned residents of Onitsha that took the girl to the Fegge Police Division to lodge a complaint.
The Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of the Division, Mr. Rabiu Garba, subsequently sent his men to arrest the culprit but he was said to have fled his home shortly after committing the offence.
The mother of the alleged suspect and co-tenants were however taken away to be questioned on the whereabouts of the fleeing suspect.
News Expressgathered from neighbours that the suspect had been in the habit of raping and defiling minors.
Meanwhile, the girl is said to be responding to treatment at the Onitsha Police Area Command clinic where she was taken to by the Fegge Police DPO for medical attention.
While confirming the incident, the DPO, Rabiu Garba, expressed optimism that the police would arrest the suspect.
The State Chairman of CLO, comrade Vincent Ezekwueme, however, commended the DPO for taking the girl to the police clinic adding that such clinics should be established in various areas for easy treatment of injuries associated with crimes.
He observed that other hospitals will demand for police report before handling such cases, thereby leading to delayed treatment that may eventually cause untimely death.
The Police at Fegge Division, Onitsha, have set their network with a view to fishing out the suspect.
