English Premiership defending champions Manchester United have announced club legend Ryan Giggs as caretaker coach hours after the ouster of fumbling manager David Moyes.
United said in a short statement: “Following the departure of David Moyes as manager, Manchester United has announced that Ryan Giggs, the club’s most decorated player, will assume responsibility for the first team until a permanent appointment can be made.
“The club will make no further comment on this process until it is concluded.”
United owners the Glazer family had earlier this morning decided to cut their losses and sack Moyes just 11 months after he replaced legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
A 33-word statement said: “Manchester United has announced that David Moyes has left the Club.
“The Club would like to place on record its thanks for the hard work, honesty and integrity he brought to the role.”
While in charge, Moyes won 27, drew nine and lost 15 of his 51 games. The Scot who enjoyed great success for 11 years at Everton had surprisingly failed to replicate the magic at United.
Dutch gaffer Louis van Gaal is being lined up as the permanent replacement.
