Former Governor of Kaduna State, Muktar Yero
The Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday invited the former Governor of Kaduna State,MuktarYero over alleged mismanagement of N750 million campaignfunds.
The former governor is invited by the anti-graft agency to explain his role in the distribution of N750 million campaign fund meant for the state during preparations for the 2015 elections.
Others who are interrogated alongside Yero are Former Kaduna State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Haruna Gaya, and former secretary to the Kaduna State Government, Hamza Ishaq.
Yero, who is a member of the PDP and a former deputy governor of Kaduna state, was sworn in as Governor on December 16, 2012, following the death of the former governor, Patrick Yakowa in a plane crash on December 15, 2012. He was defeated by the incumbent governor, Nasir El- Rufai, of the APC in 2015.
Meanwhile, supporters of the former governor have laid siege on the EFCC office with placards bearing different inscriptions.
The supporters claim that the Governor’s invitation by EFCC is a political witch hunt.
Also, the spokesman of the embattled former governor, Yakubu Lere, told journalists that the former governor arrived the Kaduna state EFCC office at about 9:00 am.
He, however, absorbed the former governor of any wrong regarding the 2015 campaign fund, noting that Yero only directed that the Campaign fund should be with the former SSG before disbursement to party members for election purposes.
Following the presence of supporters of the former governor at the premises of the EFCC office, more security operatives were drafted to the area to avert any breakdown of law and order.
Yero and the two others who were invited were later released after over four hours of interrogation. (Channels TV)
