Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested a 30-year-old man, Ugbor Chika Paul, for his alleged involvement in serial rape, robbery, and sextortion targeting young female business operators in Enugu metropolis.
The suspect was apprehended following an intensive police investigation into a string of violent attacks against female Point-of-Sale (POS) operators and unsuspecting young women. Police authorities disclosed that a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a mobile phone containing explicit nude images and video recordings of both identified and unidentified victims.
According to preliminary findings released by the Command, the suspect specialized in luring female POS operators to secluded spots under the guise of conducting large cash transactions, before robbing and sexually assaulting them. He also operated a fake Facebook profile under the name “Franklin Umeh” to entice victims on social media.
In the first recorded incident on May 21, 2026, a 20-year-old POS operator at Akwata Market, Enugu, was allegedly lured at about 11:00 a.m. to a bush behind St. Peter’s Church, Coal Camp, where the suspect robbed her of ₦600,000 and sexually assaulted her.
Months later, on August 11, 2026, a 30-year-old POS operator from the same market was lured to the same Coal Camp location at about 5:00 p.m., where she was robbed of ₦120,000 after successfully resisting an attempted rape.
Furthermore, on October 4, 2026, a 21-year-old woman met the suspect at Old Park, Enugu, around 11:30 a.m. after connecting via Facebook. She was taken to a secluded area in Udi Siding, where he allegedly raped her, robbed her of ₦100,000 alongside her phone, and recorded explicit videos. The suspect subsequently demanded ₦200,000 under the threat of releasing the recorded media, while also contacting her WhatsApp acquaintances.
Police authorities confirmed that the suspect remains in custody as detective work continues to uncover the full scope of his activities prior to formal court arraignment. The Command has urged additional victims or women who have experienced cyberstalking and sextortion linked to the suspect to step forward to aid prosecution.
In a statement issued through the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to eradicate sexual violence and cyber-crimes. He advised residents, particularly young women and small business operators, to exercise heightened caution and immediately report suspicious propositions or safety threats to law enforcement.
