A selfie has landed Samsung in big trouble with the White House.

The photo was snapped by Boston Red Sox player, David Ortiz, earlier this week after he met the US President, Barack Obama, at a function to celebrate them winning the 2013 World Series.

With his Samsung Galaxy smartphone in hand, Ortiz asked Obama to say cheese, then he grabbed the photo opportunity with the world’s most important man.

But claiming credit for the image, Samsung then tweeted the pic to its five million followers.

Sadly for the South Korean tech giants, the White House hasn’t seen the funny side, as companies are not allowed to use the president’s image for commercial gain.

White House press secretary Jay Carney said: “As a rule, the White House objects to attempts to use the president’s likeness for commercial purposes. “And we certainly object in this case.”

Rumours that Ortiz was paid by Samsung to take the image have been denied.

Ortiz told the Boston Globe: “I gave him the jersey, and the photographers were going to take their pictures and I thought, really at the last second, maybe I should snap a shot with my phone while I have the chance.”

Samsung could also face a hefty bill as the White House is currently consulting their lawyers.

So it could become one of the most expensive selfies ever.
