Ten persons have been confirmed killed in a fatal road accident involving a trailer at Badeggi in Katcha Local Government Area of Niger state.

The accident Involved a trailer and a sienna bus traveling in the opposite direction.

Two people died in the sienna bus while eight died from the trailer.

The trailer was said to be heading to Lagos state from one of the Northern states and loaded with both human beings and goods when the accident occurred.

Eyewitness account attributed the cause of the accident to bad nature of the Badeggi-Bida section of the Lambata-Lapai-Bida highway that had became a death trap for motorists plying the ever busy highway.

Although there is no official statement from the Federal Roads Safety Corp (FRSC) in the state, it was gathered that the Chairman of Bida Local Government Area, Alhaji Usman Mohammed Monko had organized a mass burial after a funeral prayer at the Abdulrahman Bin Auf Juma’at Mosque Bida, which was led by the Chief Imam, Malam Hassan Taye.

Speaking after the funeral prayer, Alhaji Usman Monko described the accident as painful and prayed Allah to forgive the deceased and grant the briefed families the patient to bear the irreparable loss.

He however appealed for maximum caution on the part of motorist’s especially trailer drivers plying the road to avoid accidents and safeguard lives and properties.

On the state of the road, the Chairman appealed to the Federal Government to either embark on the rehabilitation or complete reconstruction of the road or close it down completely to avoid unnecessary loss of lives and property.

The latest incident is coming barely four days after a similar accident along the Bida-Mokwa session of the road claimed nine lives, leaving eight others under critical condition when a Mazda car collided with a commercial bus traveling in opposite direction. (The Sun)
