Nigerian troops on duty
Troops of 72 Battalion Special Forces have killed suspected herdsman while on a clearance operation in Gbajimba, Baka, Tomanyi, Iyode and Dogon Yashi area of Taraba State.
Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Texas Chukwu, confirmed this in a press statementon Sunday.
“Troops of 72 Battalion Special Forces on 7 April 2018 while on clearance operation in Gbajimba, Baka, Tomanyi, Iyode and Dogon Yashi made contact with armed herdsmen militias at about 1330 hours,” he said.
According to Chukwu, one other militia sustained gunshot wounds while three others were arrested by the gallant soldiers.
He added, “The armed herdsmen militia engaged the troops in a firefight. In the exchange of fire, one militia herdsman was killed while 1 other with gunshots wounds and 3 others were arrested.”
After the troops succeeded in overpowering the militia, they were able to recover one AK 47 assault rifle as an exhibit.
In another operation, troops on patrol at Jatoaka town arrested 10-armed robbery suspects linked to an armed robbery incidence.
Upon their arrest, they were handed over to the police for proper investigation and prosecution.
Still capitalising on the achievements, the soldiers also gained a boost in the war against terrorism when troops of 707 Special Forces Battalion mobile strike team in Operation Lafiya Dole, prevented the infiltration of troops defensive position by two female suicide bombers.
This feat was made in collaboration with troops of the 222 Battalion who pressured the suicide bombers into detonating their suicide vests killing themselves.
“Troops of 707 Special Forces Battalion mobile strike team in Operation Lafiya Dole, prevented the infiltration of troops defensive position by two female suicide bombers.
“A combined team of 707 Special Forces mobile strike team and 222 Battalion pressured the suicide bombers into detonating their suicide vests killing themselves. Troops remain alert to prevent attacks on civilian population,” Chukwu explained.
Meanwhile, a suspected Boko Haram terrorist surrendered to troops in Sambisa forest and is currently undergoing interrogation at 26 Task Force Brigade. (Channels TV)
