The Saudi German Hospital Dubai will soon hold a free cancer screening and consultation exercise in Abuja, Manager Business Development International of the hospital, Dr George Davies has said.
He made the disclosure in Abuja when he led a delegation on a visit to the country.
Dr Davies said the hospital which carried out four medical screening programs for Nigerians last year wishes to focus on cancer treatment this time to give Nigerians access to early diagnosis and quality cancer treatment.
He said that the hospital has observed that many Nigerians and people from other countries in Africa often present late for treatment, adding that early diagnosis enhances better treatment and saves lives.
He said the hospital recently launched a comprehensive cancer centre with an expert medical team and advanced technology including a PET scan.
A PET scan which stands for positron emission tomography scan is a cancer diagnosis equipment which helps show cancerous tumours, the stage, location and spread.
Dr Davies said the hospital will soon setup a patient referral office in Abuja, adding that following screening, some cases would be managed in Nigeria and others requiring further treatment would be referred to the hospital in Dubai.
He said the hospital is partnering with the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) to provide training for Nigerian doctors.
Dilip Veliyath, Business DevelopmentExecutive of the hospital said the hospital has become a one stop shop for cancer treatment, adding that about 80 to 100 persons are targeted for the cancer medical outreach in Abuja. (Daily Trust)
